The Ash Road

A straight black road laid over an older route, binding the western cantons to crossings most maps omit.

Ash Road stones hold neither moss nor frost. Travelers say distance behaves strangely upon it: grief makes a mile longer, while a kept promise shortens the way.

Seven milestones survive between the last market town and the ford. The seventh has no foundation anyone has been able to find.
