The Bell of Cinders
A bronze ford-bell whose first note summons passage and whose second is said to summon the burden carried across.
The bell predates the ford house and perhaps the road itself. Its silver-filled fractures do not match any repair tradition still practiced in the western cantons.
Keepers are charged to replace the carved stopping wedge at every new moon. No surviving rule explains why the wedge bears a different name each month.
